Date: 07 February 2012

13 of the 16 of the national teams that have qualified for Euro 2012 this summer have chosen base-camps in Poland, this despite the fact that eight teams play their group stage matches in each host country, Poland and Ukraine. Those staying in Ukraine are the Ukrainians themselves, France and Sweden. Germany will stay in the Gdansk, even though playing in the Ukrainian cities of Lviv and Kharkiv, 750 kilometres and 1,600 kilometres away. Holland, who play in the same locations as Germany, have picked Krakow for their camp, where England, who płay in the Ukrainian capital Kiev, 870 kilometres away, and the eastern city of Donetsk, almost 1,600 kilometres away, will also stay. Euro 2012 kicks off on June 8 in Warsaw, and ends on July 1 with the final in Kiev.

Well... living in a city is not only about training - what there is to see in Kharkiv or especially in Doneck? It is also about good communication, places to visit with your wife/partner etc and all in all Ukraine has much less to offer when it comes to those activities.

Does Ukraine not have the facilities to host the team camps? I know Dynam Kyiv's HQ has fantastic facilities (assume Sweden are using) and I assume Shahktar's will be jsut aas good (assume Ukraine are using) if not better. Both Germany and Denmark play twice in Lviv so why have they chosen not to base themselves there and as for the Netherlands all 3 games to be played in Kharkiv so why not stay there - very bizarre
