Poland’s pre-war film archives are to be digitised and available on the internet, Minister of Culture Bogdan Zdrojewski said in an interview with the daily newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. All inter-war films will be accessible to all for free, with Pola Negri, Eugeniusz Bodo, Adolf Dymsza and many other actors up there. The digitisation of the films is part of the government’s plans to “share the public domain” and after the films’ copyrights have expired - in line with the directives of the European Commission – they can be made available to residents of the EU as a common heritage in a digital library – Europeana (www.europeana.eu), with over 20 million documents, books, paintings, photographs and music are available free of charge.

How exciting! I love old films and old Polish films are even better. What a wonderful undertaking.
